u-pick pumpkin patch

It's officially Fall, and we all know what that means: Pumpkins! This year, our Pumpkin Patch is brimming with various varieties in beautiful colors, from traditional orange to green, blue, and even pink! Some are smooth, some are bumpy. All are great for decorating and for cooking. The pink pumpkins in particular make for a wonderful ingredient in soups and baked goods.
Pumpkin Carving
Halloween brings with it a tradition of carving pumpkins and lighting them up for glowing decor. Our very own Sally carved this pretty kitty. Our pumpkin patch has pumpkins in all sorts of shapes and sizes; let your imagination run with the possibilities!
Not sure of your freehand skills? No worries, there are website pages full of free, printable templates for stencils and patterns. One of our favorites is this one, by Better Homes and Gardens. If carving a pumpkin isn't your thing (or you have little ones too small to use knives), you can paint it. Use non-toxic acrylics for finger painters, or more ornate techniques to embellish your gourd. Gold leaf and jewels? Yes please! |
Cooking with pumpkin
Pumpkin Spice is a common staple in these cooling months, but there is no end to the variety of recipes using these healthy squashes. Savory or sweet, soups or desserts, spiced pumpkin seeds; if you don't have a favorite recipe, you can find a great list of inspiration on the Epicurious website. The Pumpkin Dutch Baby looks particularly enticing!
